In March 2013, Anglo-Chinese Junior College’s ACSian Theatre staged the classic play, The Crucible, as part of its West Zone Centre of Excellence for Performing Arts project for the year. The performance aimed to inculcate a more sophisticated reading habit through vivid dramatization of text, and to ultimately preserve a love of the literary.
The play by Arthur Miller, is set in the conservative town of Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. The Crucible dramatizes the events of the infamous Salem Witch Trials and till today, remains one of the most celebrated works in the canon of American Drama. The Crucible is being taught in Singapore as an O-Level examination text for English Literature.
